A Little About Counseling for Change
Counseling For Change, Inc. is a 501 (c) (3) non-profit organization serving the Southern Indiana region with a continuum of care in the prevention, intervention, and treatment of the diseases of addiction, and gambling for individuals, families and communities. Counseling For Change (CFC) staff and volunteers are trained professionals who provide help, hope and healing to those in need.
CFC was established in 2002 to fill a void in treatment in Vanderburgh County and the surrounding areas. At that time, those in need of services often found waiting lists that could be as long as two months. In the treatment world, this kind of wait was unacceptable to the founders of CFC as well as the courts in Vanderburgh County. CFC began in donated space in the basement of the Evansville Housing Authority. Initial assessments were scheduled within 48 hours of client contact, Groups were offered at times necessitated by client jobs that began early in the morning or late at night. CFC utilized the latest evidence based treatment protocols coupled with 12-step philosophy. Quick availability, coupled with quality low cost treatment, created a strong presence in the theraputic community.
In November of 2004, CFC established Articles of Incorporation and was recognized by the Indiana Department of Mental Health and Addictions as an outpatient treatment provider.
In June of 2006, CFC was granted a 501 (c) (3) determination by the Internal Revenue Service. In our search for excellence, CFC sought, and obtained CARF accreditation in 2011, and was granted a further three year accreditation in 2012.
From its inception, CFC has sought to keep treatment costs at a minimum for those who could not afford the high cost of treatment. As an early partner and particpant with the Indiana Access to Recovery program, CFC has been able to assist hundreds of clients who might otherwise not have received the treatment necessary for their well being. In 2011 CFC applied and was accepted to all the major insurance panels. The most recent upgrade in services was certification for Medicaid, obtained in April of 2013.
Counseling For Change, through a CDBG grant through the City of Evansville, offers significantly reduced cost of treatment for those who do not qualify for other funds.
